Graston Technique

Graston Technique and Myofascial Release

Myofascia is the covering of all the muscles in your body. (If you’ve ever prepared chicken
for cooking and you pulled the pieces apart, the white cellophane-looking stuff is fascia.)

When muscles are injured the fascia tends to get torn and then heals with scar tissue.

This scar tissue is a major source of pain and discomfort.

The fascia helps guide the muscles movement. If it heals with lumpy scar tissue, as it often does, it will not allow the muscles to pull the joint correctly.

This will cause the joint and the muscles to strain with every motion and create more pain.

Often, the only thing you can do is break down the fascial scars and restore the proper movement patterns of the joint.

That is where the Graston Technique comes in.

Dr. Miner has been using this form of Myofascial release since 2003. We have seen dramatic results in our patients over the years.

The Graston Technique is different from most other Myofascial release treatments. It uses 6 different steel bars that are shaped for working on the many different parts of your body.

The skin is rubbed with the Graston instruments until the scar tissue is loosened in the muscles. It can be painful, so Dr. Miner works within each patient’s tolerance to get the best results.

Some of the effects of this treatment are: reduced pain, increased flexibility, increased blood flow with removal of lactic acid and other waste products, faster healing time, faster rehab and recovery times, reduced need for pain medications and anti-inflammatories.

This technique has been able to get rid of some chronic conditions that patients thought were permanent.

Many athletes who have suffered from Sports Injuries have experienced rapid recoveries and even more thorough recoveries when the Graston Technique is applied.

If you are experiencing joint pain, have old injuries where the pain seems to linger, have been in a car accident, or have recently experienced a sprain or strain, please call the office today to see if the Graston Technique can help you.
